Frequently Asked Questions

Timber FAQs
What wood do you sell?
At the timber mill we cut rough sawn timber, in Douglas Fir and by request sometimes Larch, Oak, Western Hemlock and Norway Spruce.
We know people are looking for local timber suppliers, and we therefore offer all rough sawn timber as wood grown in our woods or locally.
What lengths do you sell?
We can cut any length up to 13 metres. Our timber mill cuts standard lengths of 2.4m, 3m, 3.6m, 4.2m, 4.8m.
For anything non-standard you will need to discuss with us for a price and for long timber special transport arrangements may be needed.
Can you deliver wood from the timber mill?
Yes, we can deliver orders. We deliver free within 7 miles of the timber mill.
This free delivery service includes most places in Boncath, New chapel, Newcastle Emlyn, Abercych, Crymych, Llanfrynach, Glandwr, Hermon, Tegryn, Cardigan, Eglwyswrw and St Dogmaels.
It costs £2.50 per mile beyond this, to cover our time and running costs.
Do you sell treated wood?
We sell mostly untreated wood in the form of rough sawn timber cut from the timber mill.
The wood we use ‒ mostly Douglas Fir ‒ is known to be highly durable wood for use indoors and outdoors without treatment.
If you need treated wood, we can collaborate with Merlwood Timber to arrange this for larger orders.
Do you sell seasoned timber?
We have a limited stock of timber in the timber yard, some of which will be ‘seasoned’. Give us a call if you need this and we can see if we have anything in stock to meet your needs.
Can I phone someone?
Yes, call 01239 841675 – please leave a message if we are out milling or delivering.
Can we come and have a look?
Unfortunately we cannot accommodate most requests to visit and view stock in the sawmill and timber yard.
You are welcome to visit the woodlands, which have miles of tracks suitable for walkers, bikers and horse riders.
Sometimes it may be possible to visit the timber mill at a prearranged time. However as it is a working timber mill and timber yard, with heavy machinery operating, this is limited for everybody’s safety. We are also not always there to meet people. Please don’t visit the sawmill without confirming with us first.
Is it PAR (planed all round)?
No, we do not offer PAR wood.
Do you grade the timber?
Yes, we can grade to C14 and C18 for added cost, please call or email to get a custom quote for this.
Why is it more expensive compared to Jewsons?
Jewsons mainly sell treated, imported, white pine.
We are selling top quality locally sourced Douglas Fir and Larch grown and felled in Ffynone woods Pembrokeshire, milled in a local timber mill and we’re paying a living wage to all staff.
There is no comparison in these products.
